The archetype is the plunge. The same figure surfaces in four systems, a self that ends a thing in order to remake it, going all the way down and coming back changed. In the Vedic sky it is Vṛścika, fixed water, the well rather than the river, deep and covered and unmoved by weather. Maṅgala, Mars, rules it as his night-house, and the tradition reads the force that charges openly in Aries as going underground here, holding its charge instead of spending it. It is the natural eighth, the covered well of the chart, glossed as depths, endings, what is inherited and what stays hidden.

The Golden Dawn gives this sign to Death, the thirteenth trump, and the attribution is careful about what it means. Nothing is being killed on the card. The skeleton rides through an aftermath, past a fallen king and a kneeling child, and the white rose on its banner carries the defense, the cut takes only what was already over. Classically it is read as the close of a cycle, the school of descent and return, which is Vṛścika’s own motion. The card carries the suit of Cups, water, feeling that has to go the whole way down before it can rise, so the ending here is felt rather than argued.

The Matrix keys the same thirteen to a birthdate, arcanum 13, read as inheritance and tendency, never a verdict handed to a person. Human Design renders the theme in the body. The tropical Scorpio arc gathers gates 1, 14, 28, 43, 44, and the plunge sits most plainly in gate 28, which the system names the game player, the struggle to find a purpose worth the risk with mortality standing in the room. Self-expression in gate 1 and insight in gate 43 press against that edge. The bodygraph’s version of depth is a life measured against what it would be willing to end for.

The well is sealed to keep something, and opened to let it die. One sign holds both moves.

The honesty has to stay in view. The Vedic Vṛścika is sidereal, anchored to the stars, while the tarot attribution and the Human Design gate-wheel are tropical, anchored to the equinox, and the two zodiacs have drifted about 24 degrees apart by now. The stretch a Vedic chart calls Vṛścika and the stretch the HD wheel calls Scorpio do not cover the same degrees. What repeats across all four is the archetype, the descent and the return, and not the coordinates.
