The Wheel of Fortune, Key X, is the tarot major the Matrix of Destiny seats at the tenth arcanum. Its image is old. Boethius gave medieval Europe the rota Fortunae, the wheel that lifts one figure while it drops another, and the Rider-Waite-Smith card keeps that motion, with the sphinx poised at the crown, a serpent sliding down the left, Anubis rising on the right, and the four fixed-sign creatures reading in the corners. The Golden Dawn assigned the card to Jupiter, the graha the tradition calls Guru, and read the pairing as expansion, fortune, the turn of a larger clock.

Matrix readers take an arcanum as inheritance rather than forecast, a program the native keeps returning to. In the tenth position the tradition reads a life set close to change, windfalls and reversals arriving early and often in both directions, timing the faculty the native leans on hardest. Classically the gift is seasonal literacy: the knack of sensing when to plant, when to sell, when to let a turn pass overhead. The shadow the sources name is the gambler’s lean, mistaking one good year for character and blaming the wheel for the bet that lost.

Across systems the Wheel rhymes with Jupiter’s return cycle and with any point of luck that widens and contracts on its own clock. It cannot be gripped, only ridden with the hands kept loose.
