Shatabhisha is the hundred physicians, or the hundred healers required; the texts allow both readings. It is the twenty-fourth of the lunar circle’s stations, set in Kumbha (Aquarius), ruled by the north node Rāhu and presided over by Varuṇa, keeper of the cosmic waters and the moral law that runs beneath them. Its symbol is an empty circle: the container, the cell, the protective boundary drawn around a mystery.

The tradition reads it as the medicine of last resort, the ailment or question ordinary practice cannot reach and the solitary, unorthodox mind that can. Rāhu’s rulership pulls the work toward the hidden and the foreign: research, esoteric craft, the remedy no school teaches. Its aim is dharma, which is why the tradition frames the seclusion as service and not mere retreat. Classically the star favors medicine, ritual, astrology, and work done alone.

The gift is secretive healing power, the hundred remedies known because one illness was survived. The shadow is the circle’s own: isolation hardened into doctrine, secrecy kept past its use, the healer who will admit no physician. Varuṇa’s question rises from deep water.
