The front legs of the bed, the eleventh nakṣatra, laid across the back half of Siṃha (Leo) from 13°20′ to 26°40′. Śukra (Venus) rules it; Bhaga presides, the Āditya the old texts charge with good fortune, the shared portion of wealth, and the happiness of marriages. Its puruṣārtha is kāma, desire held as the licensed art of enjoyment. This is the zodiac’s afternoon off.

Classically the mansion of pleasure taken without apology: love, leisure, performance, the ease of a host who wants you genuinely comfortable. The tradition reads its gift as warmth that loosens a room, creativity that arrives from rest instead of strain, the generosity of someone with enough to spare. Its shadow is the bed’s own. Indulgence promoted to a vocation, vanity, the nap that stretches into a decade.

The classifiers have never agreed on its temper. The standard tables file it among the ugra, the fierce nakṣatras an old muhūrta manual would pick for demolition sooner than a wedding, yet every reading of its content comes back to comfort and delight. The pleasure principle has always unsettled the people sorting it. Its question is the host’s, asked kindly: real work and its rest are twins, and only the native knows which one has been standing in for the other.
