Reading

Three cards are laid left to right and read under a frame chosen before the draw. The common frames are past, present, and future, the arc of a situation in time; situation, action, and outcome, a short counsel that reads where you stand, what is yours to do, and where it tends; mind, body, and spirit, one state in three registers; and you, the bond, and the other, a relationship seen as a pattern with the middle card standing for the dynamic itself. Setting the frame first is what turns three loose cards into a shaped answer.

This is the flexible workhorse of tarot. It is small enough to read clearly and large enough to hold a short movement, a beginning, a middle, and an end. When a single card feels too thin and a full cross too much, the three-card spread is usually the right size.

Read the row, not each card alone. The story sits in how one leans into the next.

The three are read as a line. The middle card is where the reading lives, and the outer two lean toward it, coloring where the situation came from and where it heads. In the relationship frame, hold the cards as a pattern in the dynamic between two people, and keep clear of any claim about what someone else privately feels.
