Channel 10–34 · Exploration

The channel of Exploration runs from Gate 10 in the G Centre, the seat of identity and direction, down to Gate 34 in the Sacral, the body’s vitality motor. One end is who a person is; the other is the current that keeps them moving. Wire the two together and the self stops being an idea and gets an engine.

The two hexagrams name the engine. Gate 10 carries the I Ching’s tenth figure, Lǚ, Treading: heaven above the lake, a foot set on the tiger’s tail, the walker unbitten because the manner of the walking is exact. Gate 34 carries the thirty-fourth, Dà Zhuàng, the Power of the Great: thunder loose in the heaven above it, the strongest trigram already in motion. Conduct on one side, sheer force on the other. Read together they describe power that has agreed to obey the way a person already walks.

Practitioners read this wire as the drive to follow one’s own convictions, absorbed in a way of working only its owner can see the shape of. The Sacral is a motor and a Generator’s defining centre, so the current answers rather than pushes: it lights when life asks and lies quiet when it does not. Held well, a person’s sheer aliveness serves their own nature and nobody needs convincing. Spent badly, the same power turns into motion for its own sake, forever busy, loyal to no direction at all.

The engine is the easy part. The self clear enough to aim it is the rare wiring.
