Channel 10–20 · Awakening

The channel of Awakening runs from Gate 10 in the G Centre, the seat of identity and direction, up to Gate 20 in the Throat, where what a body is becomes something it can say. No motor sits in the wire, nothing to generate the impulse or ripen it on an emotional wave. The self arrives at the voice and is spoken in the present tense: this is how I move, said out loud, in the moment it is true.

The two hexagrams set the terms. Gate 10 carries the I Ching’s tenth figure, 履, Treading, heaven above and the lake below, the one who steps behind the tiger and is not bitten. It reads as conduct, the way a person carries the self through the world. Gate 20 carries the twentieth, 觀, Contemplation, wind passing over the earth, the tower climbed to see clearly and to be seen. Its whole concern is the present, what is here now. Together they describe a way of being that turns audible the instant it is lived.

The gift and the shadow share the wire. Awake, the channel is simply what it is, a person present and unrehearsed, conduct arriving as speech without a script. Turned around, the self only knows itself once it has announced itself, and behavior gets performed for the room before it has been lived. Practitioners read this as a projected channel, one that lands when it is recognized and grates when it pushes the voice ahead of its moment.

The system named it Awakening for a reason. The self, wide awake, saying so.
