Channel 29–46 · Discovery

The channel of Discovery runs from Gate 29 in the Sacral, one of the four motors and the body’s deep well of response energy, to Gate 46 in the G Centre, the seat of identity and the sense of being at home in a body. Wire the two together and raw perseverance gets pointed at the question of who you are. The energy to say yes and stay in it is bound to the self that the yes will build.

A yes said with the whole body.

The two hexagrams set the terms. Gate 29 carries the I Ching’s twenty-ninth figure, 坎, The Abysmal, water running into one hollow after another and filling each one completely before it flows on. Its lesson is constancy through depth: you go in, you stay, you come through by not stopping. Gate 46 carries the forty-sixth, 升, Pushing Upward, wood growing out of the earth, a patient ascent that rises when placement and timing are right. Read together they describe discovery through devotion, effort in the right place met halfway by good fortune. One of Gate 46’s names in this system is Serendipity: the body in the right place at the right time.

The gift and the shadow sit in the same wire. Aimed well, this is perseverance that lands somewhere true, the capacity to succeed by staying in what others abandon. Aimed at the wrong thing, the same depth that would have carried a real commitment becomes the hollow you cannot climb out of. Practitioners hold that the sacral yes has to be felt before it is given, a sound from the gut rather than a plan from the head, because this channel discovers its life through whatever it commits to.
