House 11 · Lābha

Lābha means the gain, and the eleventh bhāva is where a chart counts its harvest: income, profit, the wish that finally lands, and the people who make landing possible. Friends, networks, elder siblings, the loose federation of allies that carries a life past the reach of its own two legs. Jyotiṣa gives the house to Guru (Jupiter) as its kāraka, the graha of increase, and files it among the upachayas, the houses that grow with time. Classically it counts as the strongest of the four: nearly everything here ripens rather than decays, so the texts approach eleventh-house placements with a rare optimism. Even a malefic is said to give gains from Lābha, though the tradition adds that it names its price.

What the eleventh maps is desire ripening into arrival. A wish here recruits company and comes back as fruit. The shadow the classics flag is appetite without a floor: gains that only widen the wanting, friendship kept like a portfolio, a net thrown wider each year and never full. Read well, the house sits downstream of a healthy fifth, where what was once made in play returns as harvest. Its natural resonance is Kumbha (Aquarius), the wide circuit, the sign that gathers many into one current.
