House 7 · Yuvati

Yuvati bhāva sits directly opposite the lagna, the descendant, the point that faces the self. This is where the tradition places the other one deals with face to face: the spouse, the business partner, the open rival, the public a person trades with. Its kāraka is Śukra, the graha of attraction and the art of agreement, so the seventh carries the whole grammar of the yes.

Classically it is a kendra, one of the four angular pillars that give a chart its structure, and at the same time a māraka, one of the houses counted as life-shortening. Parāśara pairs the seventh with the second under that name, and the logic is bracing: what a person binds themselves to spends their time and their years.

Read the house for the shape of partnership, and for what the choosing is asked to do, whether completion, escape, an audience, or an ally. Grahas placed here describe the qualities a person keeps meeting in others, which classical texts treat as a working portrait of what stays unlived in the self. A strong seventh is read as partnership that functions as an instrument; an afflicted one makes the mirror the lesson. Either reading holds the same law. What a person will not carry, the tradition says, they meet in the one across the table.
