Profile 5 / 1 · The Heretic and the Investigator

A profile is the personality-Sun line laid over the design-Sun line, the conscious costume above the unconscious one, the design side computed for the body roughly three months before birth, when the Sun stood 88 degrees of arc behind its natal place. Here the fifth line rides above the first: the Heretic worn over the Investigator. Because the conscious line sits higher than the unconscious, the system files this among the Left Angle profiles, a life that plays out mostly through other people rather than through its own private process.

The I Ching gives the two positions their weight. The first line is the bottom yao, the foundation, the root that has to reach bedrock before anything above it will stand; its instinct is to dig, to read the whole manual, to refuse the next step until the footing is known. The fifth sits in the ruler’s seat, the line the whole hexagram looks toward, and in the old commentaries it is the place others fix their hopes on. So the Investigator digs for solid ground in private, and the Heretic becomes the face a group turns to for the practical, universal answer.

The two lines keep different weather. The Investigator runs below awareness, felt as unease until the ground is proven rather than named as a need. The Heretic lives inside a field of projection: credited as the one who saved it when the solution holds, blamed as the one who should have known when it fails. Practitioners hold that the seam is the same. A fix the crowd will trust is one that was quietly dug all the way to the root.
