Profile 6 / 2 · The Role Model over the Hermit

A profile is two numbers, the line of the personality Sun over the line of the design Sun, and the system reads it as the costume a life wears, not a verdict on the one who wears it. Here the personality line is the sixth, the Role Model, and the design line beneath it is the second, the Hermit. Because the personality line is the larger number, the bodygraph files this pair as a left angle: a life the tradition reads as turned outward, transpersonal, worked out through others as much as on the self.

The sixth line is the top line of every hexagram, the rung above the finished figure, where the I Ching sets the sage who has run the whole thing through and watches from over it. The second line sits at the center of the lower trigram, the inner field, correct in its place and out of sight. Classically it is the natural, the one holding a gift nobody taught, who stays in the room until a voice outside calls it out by name.

Carrying both takes most of a life. Practitioners read the sixth line as moving through three phases: a first third that crashes and tests, a long stretch on the roof observing, then a descent in the last third into the example others measure by. Under it the Hermit wants solitude and will not perform on demand, coming down only when the call is genuine. The gift is an authority no one can fake, because it was lived before it was worn. The shadow is a hermit who never climbs off the roof, or one who answers a call that was only ever noise.
