D20 · Viṁśāṁśa

The twentieth divisional chart, the Viṁśāṁśa, divides each sign into twenty parts of 1°30′ and sends each to a sign of its own. This is the chart the tradition turns to for spiritual practice: worship, sādhana, the forms of devotion a person keeps and the deity they keep them toward. Where the D1 shows the outward life, the D20 magnifies the inner discipline underneath it, the part of a life spent facing what it holds sacred.

The parts are counted from a starting sign set by the sign’s modality, twenty steps of 1°30′ from there. Classically a strong Viṁśāṁśa is read as a native drawn to practice and steady in it, though the schools are careful to separate the pull toward worship from any promise about its fruit.

The tradition reads this chart for the direction of devotion, not the distance it travels.

On the Oroiael instrument the D20 is cast live on the Vedic chart. It is weighed with the ninth house and Ketu, faith and the turn inward, since a reading of practice steadies when more than one method points the same way.
