D10 · Daśāṁśa

A varga fans one planet’s position into a chart tuned to a single department of life. The Daśāṁśa is the tenth division, thirty degrees split into ten arcs of three degrees each. The tradition reads it for career and profession, for status and achievement, for the shape of a person’s action in the world once the tenth house of the birth chart has named the field.

The counting follows the parity of the sign. From an odd sign the ten parts run forward from the sign itself; from an even sign they begin at its ninth. A tenth house that looks plain in the birth chart can open into something fuller in the Daśāṁśa, and the classical readers take the deeper chart as the truer measure of standing built rather than standing assumed.

The tenth house names the trade; the Daśāṁśa is where the tradition reads the standing it earns.

Read this division for the work a life does, not for the fame it is owed. It is a chart of the long arc: the shadow it names is a career mistaken for a self, the gift is a body of work that speaks without the person present. Achievement shows here only once the arc is long enough to see.
