D4 · Chaturthāṁśa

The Chaturthāṁśa is the D4, the four-part chart. Each sign divides into four quarters of seven and a half degrees, the parts falling to the sign itself and its three kendras, the fourth, seventh, and tenth from it. It governs fixed property, the land and house and immovable holding, and with it fortune and the inner contentment a settled place is meant to hold.

Its subject doubles the fourth house of the birth chart, sukha bhāva, the seat of home, mother, and ease of heart. The Oroiael instrument does not cast the D4; it is carried here as classical reference, the rule set down so the reading stays honest about what it computes and what it only cites.

Property is shelter; the D4 asks whether the mind will rest in it.

The tradition reads the Chaturthāṁśa for whether holdings, once gained, turn into peace, and holds that the two need not arrive together. Read against the D1, it refines the fourth house’s promise of a place to belong, taken as tendency and orientation, not as deed or title.
