Reading
The Rāśi is the D1, the sign-chart drawn straight from the moment of birth. Every planet sits in one of the twelve signs at its whole degree, and where the other vargas cut those thirty degrees into finer parts, the D1 leaves the sign undivided, one to one. It governs the body, the whole life, the physical plane a person actually stands in.
A varga fans one planetary position into many charts, each magnifying a single department of life. The D1 is the department that holds all the others, the visible life itself. Classical reading treats a promise made in a divisional chart as unrealized until the D1 supports it. Dignity in the D9 means little if the birth chart gives the planet nowhere to stand.
The varga divides; the Rāśi is what stays whole.
Its marker is the Lagna, the ascendant, the edge of the eastern sky at the first breath, and the first house it opens is the body. The tradition reads the Rāśi for the life as lived, and every finer chart as a lens laid over it, never a replacement.
