D3 · Drekkāṇa

The Drekkāṇa is the D3, the three-part chart. Each sign’s thirty degrees fall into three stretches of ten: the first stays in the sign itself, the second maps to the sign’s fifth, the third to its ninth, the sign together with the two trines it makes. It governs siblings and co-borns, and with them courage, the parākrama that is the nerve to move first.

Because the three parts follow the elemental trine, a planet’s Drekkāṇa placement is read for which face of its own quality colors it, the movable, fixed, or dual sign of the same element. Some texts assign the three parts to deities or to the guardians of the directions; the counting itself, sign, fifth, ninth, holds steady across them.

Siblings and courage share the third house; both are learned beside someone.

Read against the D1, the Drekkāṇa refines what the third house of the birth chart begins, the standing of siblings and the raw initiative a person spends. The tradition reads it for co-borns and for courage kept in reserve, held as tendency, never as a fixed roster of who arrives.
