Solar yogas · Veśi, Vāsi, Ubhayachārī

The solar yogas describe the company the Sun keeps. A planet other than the Moon in the second house from the Sun makes Veśi yoga; the same in the twelfth makes Vāsi; planets on both sides at once make Ubhayachārī. They are the Sun’s version of a pattern the Moon has too, and the codex reads the two sets side by side.

The tradition reads these for will, speech, and measured action. The Sun stands for the self and the sovereign function, so what flanks it is held to color how a person acts and is seen. Ubhayachārī, supported on both sides, is given the fullest version, a steadiness and standing and an even hand.

The shape is common; what it means comes from who is standing beside the Sun.

That color comes entirely from the flanking planets. Benefics near the Sun read one way, malefics another, and a planet pressed too close is combust and loses much of what it would otherwise give. These yogas are common enough that their presence alone means little; what they point to depends on who does the flanking, how strong those planets are, and whether a daśā brings them forward.
