Śakaṭa · the Moon far from Jupiter

Śakaṭa is the cart. The tradition names it when the Moon sits in the sixth, eighth, or twelfth house counted from Jupiter, the great benefic set at an awkward distance from the mind’s own light.

It is read as fortune that will not hold level, prosperity that rises and then drops and then rises again, the way a cart wheel carries its lowest point back to the top. The image is of luck that comes and goes rather than luck that stays.

It is one of the more exaggerated of the lunar combinations. Many astrologers hold it minor, and a common rule cancels it outright when the Moon stands angular, in a kendra, from the Lagna, which is a frequent placement. Because the Moon and Jupiter fall at these distances in a large share of charts, the raw yoga is common while its effect is read as slight. The codex treats it as a texture to note, not a fate to fear.
