Trikoṇa · the trines

Trikoṇa means trine. The trikoṇas are the houses 1, 5, and 9, spaced a third of the wheel apart, and the tradition reads them as the seat of dharma, the line a life is meant to walk, and of the fortune that follows from walking it. The 5th is read as merit carried from before, the 9th as fortune and grace, and the 1st stands in this group and among the angles both.

A trine does not push. It blesses.

A planet in a trikoṇa supports and blesses whatever it touches, and trikoṇa lords are counted auspicious whatever their natural character. Where a kendra gives a planet power to act, a trikoṇa gives it goodwill. Classically a planet that owns both a kendra and a trikoṇa becomes a yogakāraka, the single strongest benefic a chart can carry.
