Gate 1 · The Creative

Gate 1 sits in the G Centre, the seat of identity and direction, and it leaves that centre by one road only: the channel 1–8, Inspiration, running up to the Throat, where gate 8 holds the other end. The structure is blunt about what that costs. Creative force in the bodygraph has no larynx of its own. It needs the gate above it to make the work visible, so the system reads this gate as origination that depends on someone willing to carry it out into the room.

Creation has no voice of its own.

The I Ching calls its hexagram Qián, the Creative: six unbroken lines, heaven doubled, not one yielding stroke in the figure. Pure initiating force, the current before it has been given a channel. On the wheel the gate directly opposite, its programming partner, is gate 2, whose hexagram is the Receptive, six broken lines and nothing else. The two poles of the Book of Changes face each other across the mandala and share a centre. One energy, read from both ends.

To carry gate 1 is to carry something that arrives on its own schedule and will not be scheduled. Practitioners read the gift as originality that cannot be borrowed or copied, and the shadow as the melancholy of the unwitnessed: work made alone, and the long ache of waiting for someone to see what only you could have made. The three crosses it anchors name the whole range without apology, the Sphinx, Self-Expression, Defiance.

The current does not ask whether it is wanted. It asks only to be let out.
