Reading

Gate 31 sits in the Throat, the centre of voice and manifestation, and reaches down to the G Centre through the channel of the Alpha, 31 to 7. Its keynote is influence. The system reads it as leadership that has to be granted: the voice that says “I lead,” carried only as far as a room agrees to follow it.

“I lead” is a claim the group gets to answer.

The I Ching calls its hexagram Xián, Influence, sometimes read as Wooing. A lake rests on a mountain, the still height where water gathers of its own accord. The classical image is of someone who keeps the mind open enough that others come toward it. Influence works this way, by drawing rather than driving. Gate 31 gives the words; gate 7 in the G holds the direction those words are for, and one sits empty without the other.

The gift is the voice a group elects, a future named aloud that people want to move toward. The shadow is that same voice campaigning for a seat nobody offered, leading to be seen leading. The wheel opens gate 31 at two degrees of Leo, and the cross it anchors is fittingly the Left Angle Cross of the Alpha. Practitioners hold the whole of it in one condition: wait to be asked, then speak.
