Cross 31 · The Influence Crosses
Leadership worn as a life, the throat's pull to influence and be followed, lived at three ranges: the self's own process, a single fixed lane, and a fate bound up with others.
Reading
An incarnation cross is the geometry a whole life hangs on: the Sun and Earth at birth crossed with the Sun and Earth of the design moment, 88 degrees of solar arc before it. Here the personality Sun sits in Gate 31, in the Throat, the centre of voice and manifestation, with the Earth opposite in Gate 41 down in the Root. The system reads Gate 31 as influence, leadership a group has to grant before it carries.
The I Ching gives the gate the hexagram Xián, Influence, sometimes read as Wooing. A lake rests on a mountain, still water gathered at a height others climb to reach. The classical image is a mind kept open enough that people come toward it of their own accord, influence that draws rather than drives. Carried well, it is the voice a room elects, a future named aloud that people want to move toward. Carried as shadow, it is that same voice campaigning for a seat nobody offered, leading in order to be seen leading.
The three angles hold the theme at different reaches. The Right Angle Cross of the Unexpected is a life largely about its own process, leadership arrived at by surprise, a seat one never planned to hold. The Juxtaposition Cross of Influence is the narrow lane, a fixed fate whose single note is the pull to sway a room. The Left Angle Cross of the Alpha turns transpersonal, a life bound up with others through the channel that carries it, 31 to 7, the voice joined to the direction it speaks for. Practitioners hold none of these as a rank. The gate underneath does not change; only its reach does, from the self, to the fixed lane, to the room that has to say yes.
