Cross 35 · The incarnation crosses of the Sun in Gate 35.

An incarnation cross is the widest frame in the bodygraph: four gates, the Sun and Earth of the personality side and the Sun and Earth of the design side, read together as the theme a life keeps circling back to. Here the personality Sun sits in Gate 35, in the Throat, the centre of speech and manifestation. The I Ching calls its hexagram Progress: fire risen over the earth, the sun clearing the horizon, swift advance and the appetite to taste what has not yet been tasted. Gate 35 is read as the gate of change through experience, and the channel it belongs to, 35-36, the system names Transitoriness. The gift is a life rich in what it has moved through. The shadow is motion mistaken for meaning, the next thing swallowed before the last one was digested.

Progress read as appetite, the drive toward the not-yet-lived.

One Sun gate, three angles. The Right Angle Cross of Consciousness is read as a life mostly about its own process, experience gathered for one’s own becoming and turning only later into anything to say. The Juxtaposition Cross of Experience is the narrow lane, a fixed drive to keep experiencing that runs whether or not it serves. The Left Angle Cross of Separation turns outward and transpersonal, the experience moving through other people, the hexagram’s promise of advance arriving, or stalling, in company.

Practitioners hold that a cross names the theme a life is set to, never the ending. The appetite is given; what it is spent on is not.
