Cross 28 · The gate of struggle, carried three ways

Gate 28 sits in the Spleen, the centre of survival instinct, and forms a single channel, 28–38, the channel of Struggle, dropping to the Root. On the wheel it stands opposite gate 27, its programming partner. As a Sun gate it anchors an incarnation cross, the fixed geometry a life is said to be born onto, named for where the Sun and Earth sit at birth and at the design instant.

The weight measured against what the crossing is worth.

The I Ching calls its hexagram Dà Guò, the Preponderance of the Great: a ridgepole bearing more than it was cut to hold, sagging toward the break, a lake risen over the wood it drowns. The oldest reading is a critical passage, a load too heavy to carry the usual way, and its counsel is to have somewhere to go, to cross with resolve even alone.

The system reads that weighing three ways. The Right Angle Cross of the Unexpected keeps it private, a life largely about its own trials, learning at the edge what a risk is worth. The Juxtaposition Cross of Risks is the narrow lane, a fixed fate pressed into the wager itself. The Left Angle Cross of Alignment turns transpersonal, a life entangled with others, its purpose surfacing only in what it aligns with beyond itself.

The Spleen speaks once and does not repeat itself. Carried well, this is a life spent on something the body agreed was worth the risk. Carried badly, it is struggle kept for its own sake, or every crossing refused for fear that nothing on the far side would justify the fall. The gate does not promise the far bank. It asks what you would trade to reach it.
