Cross 27 · The Nourishment Crosses

An incarnation cross is the frame a life hangs on: the Sun and Earth at birth crossed with the Sun and Earth of the design moment, 88 degrees of solar arc before it. Here the personality Sun sits in Gate 27, in the Sacral, the body’s engine of sustained life-force, with the Earth opposite in Gate 28. The system reads this gate as caring, the sacral pull to feed, to tend, to keep another thing alive.

The I Ching gives Gate 27 the hexagram Yí, Nourishment: mountain above thunder, a still form fed by the moving power beneath it. Its oldest image is the open mouth, what goes in as food and what comes out as speech. The classical counsel is temperance in both, since a person is nourished or starved by what they take in and what they give out. Carried well, this is the one who provides and does not keep score. Carried as shadow, it is care that has lost its own edge, feeding others past depletion, or an appetite that consumes and calls it love.

The three angles hold that theme at different reaches. The Right Angle Cross of the Unexpected is a life largely about its own process, nourishment learned through personal surprise, the plan overturned by what the body actually needs. The Juxtaposition Cross of Caring is the narrow lane, a fixed fate whose single note is tending. The Left Angle Cross of Alignment turns transpersonal, a life whose care is bound up with others and only comes right in the meeting. Practitioners hold none of these as a rank. The gate underneath does not change; only the reach does, from the self, to the fixed lane, to the other.
