Cross 8 · The gate-8 cross family: Contagion, Contribution, Uncertainty.

Gate 8 sits in the Throat Centre, the seat of voice and manifestation, and its hexagram is the eighth of the I Ching: Pi, Holding Together, water resting on the earth and flowing into every hollow until the many become one. The image is union around a centre, an alliance that holds because people freely gather to it. Through the channel of Inspiration the gate reaches gate 1, the Creative, in the G Centre: gate 1 sounds the individual note, gate 8 gives it a public form, the contribution that lets a private originality be heard.

An incarnation cross is the whole geometry of a life, Sun and Earth on both sides of the wheel, and this one axis of contribution is carried three ways.

The Right Angle Cross of Contagion turns inward on its own process, a life spent working out what it has to give before it gives it. That name is shared across a small family of suns, and its common thread is a note that spreads by being caught rather than argued.

The Juxtaposition Cross of Contribution is the narrow lane, a fixed fate, one register of giving kept for a lifetime, the offering made whether or not it was asked for.

The Left Angle Cross of Uncertainty turns the same force outward, a life entangled with others, the contribution let go without knowing whether it will land. The I Ching says the uncertain gradually join; here the not-knowing is the price of standing in front of the room.

Practitioners read gate 8 as gift and shadow together: the pull to be seen through can curdle into contributing for the applause, and the note only carries when it is genuinely one’s own.
