Gate 35 · The Appetite for Experience

Gate 35 opens in the Throat, where inner life turns into voice and action, and it runs down the channel of Transitoriness (35–36) into the Solar Plexus. Because the wire ends in the emotional centre, its wanting arrives as a wave rather than a steady hum: the appetite for experience, the pull to have tasted a thing, done it, felt it, and moved on.

Progress is the sun clearing the horizon.

The I Ching names its hexagram Jìn, Progress. The figure is fire above the earth, the sun rising into a widening day, and the classical image is advancement: brightness gathering, a prince brought forward and honored. The text keeps its warning close to its promise. Easy progress can tip into moving too fast, advancing with the horns lowered, appetite outrunning what the body has actually digested.

Held well, the system reads Gate 35 as the voice that speaks from having lived through things: the one who can tell you what an experience is really like because they went and had it. Its knowing is retrospective, arriving only after the fact, which is its gift and its patience both. Held restlessly, it becomes the hunger that leaves every cup full and walks toward the next, collecting and never keeping, forever asking what comes next before the last thing was understood. The tasting was never the point. The point is the quiet afterward, when experience finally turns into knowledge.
